From Starter to Sustainability: A Sourdough Workshop
Don't miss our interactive sourdough workshop during Sustainability Week 2026! Discover the art of sourdough, taste different varieties of sourdough breads, and take home your own starter.
This interactive workshop introduces participants to the practice of sourdough baking and its connection to sustainability. The event begins with a short presentation on sourdough, food waste, and sustainable food systems, explaining how traditional baking methods can support more responsible food consumption.
Participants will learn how sourdough contributes to reduced food waste, improved food preservation, and healthier food systems. The session will also highlight digestive benefits and the positive effects of sourdough fermentation on the gut microbiome.
After the introduction, participants will take part in a guided tasting of different types of sourdough bread, exploring flavours, textures, and fermentation techniques. The workshop also includes a hands-on activity where each participant will prepare their own sourdough starter to take home, giving them the practical knowledge to continue baking sustainably.
The event combines education, tasting, and practical skills, creating an engaging learning experience that connects sustainability with everyday food habits.
