“Food is community not commodity” – Free Movie & Dinner
Food should be accessible to everyone, yet large amounts are wasted while many go without. People’s Kitchen Lund and Hållbart Universitet invites you to a film screening followed by a free/donation-based community dinner. Come share food, thoughts, and community. Everyone is welcome.
The People's Kitchen (Folkets Kök) is built on the idea that food is community, not a commodity. We strongly believe that everyone should have access to good and healthy food.
As part of The Ecosocialist Collective—a group of passionate students from Lund University fighting for social-ecological justice through community building, political education, and activism—The People’s Kitchen aims to create an alternative relationship to food, which today is often shaped by overconsumption, competition, and large amounts of food waste.
During the event, which is co-organised by Hållbart Universitet, we will watch a documentary on this topic together and take time to reflect on our daily habits. Through discussion, we hope to find inspiration and explore how we can take meaningful action—both individually and collectively—after the screening.
We invite everyone in Lund, as well as visitors coming from outside the city for Sustainability Week, who share these values or are simply curious to learn more. Join us for both the movie screening and the communal dinner. Everyone is welcome—come alone, or bring your friends, community, family, and even your children or pets!
Practical information
There is no need to register in advance. The event will take place at Smålands Nation, Kastanjegatan 7, Lund, starting at 15:30. Even though the venue is a student nation, the event is open to everyone. Please respect our zero-tolerance policy toward any aggressive, threatening, or discriminatory behaviour, including racism, ageism, sexism, ableism, transphobia, homophobia, or any other form of marginalisation. No matter your age or background, you are welcome to join.
Popcorn will be provided during the movie screening! Afterward, we will continue with our weekly volunteer-led dinner, offering free or donation-based vegan meals made from rescued ingredients, helping to reduce food waste. Kindly note that we operate on a first-come, first-served basis—meals will be available until everything runs out. We prepare the amount of food based on previous weeks’ attendance and the ingredients available.
The event is part of Sustainability Week 2026, which runs between 13-18 April. Sustainability Week is an annual event in Lund organised as a joint venture by Lund University and Lund municipality. The week serves as a platform for bringing together ideas, raising public awareness and for inspiring sustainable change.
