Agenda 2030 Award – celebrating research on rainforests, death cafes and seafloor carbon storage

The Lund University Agenda 2030 Award aims to promote innovative and interdisciplinary research on sustainable development by early career researchers at the university. The winner will be recognised at the event for innovative work related to the UN sustainability goals.

The event will include short presentations of the winning and runner-up research –  all related to climate change in one way or another –  soundscapes, coffee and refreshments as we honour this year's winner and runners-up (honourable nominees). Finally, you can stay a while and visit a death café, a place to share thoughts on life and death over a Swedish fika.

Programme

14:45 - Mingle with refreshments and soundscapes created by student Simon Bertilsson from the Malmö Academy of Music 

15:00 - 15:45 Award ceremony, including presentations by winner Jesica López and honourable nominees Lina Lefstad and Jamie Woodworth.

• How expanding cattle ranching is threatening the rainforest in the Colombian part of the Amazon, and how it might be solved - Jesica López
• How the much publicised CCS method of capturing and storing carbon dioxide, for example under the seabed, can be used in a just way, and the role of the fossil fuel industry in the solution - Lina Lefstad
• How the so-called death cafés began as a response to climate anxiety, and the studies on end-of-life care, where cuts in welfare are leading to an increased burden on carers, especially women - Jamie Woodworth

About the award and Duni Group

The Agenda 2030 Award highlights innovative and interdisciplinary research in sustainable development carried out by early career researchers at Lund University. The winner receives a prize of 25,000 SEK. The award is made possible through the support of Duni Group and is presented annually during Sustainability Week.

The event is part of Sustainability Week 2025, which runs between 5-10 May. Sustainability Week is an annual event in Lund organised as a joint venture by Lund University and Lund municipality. The week serves as a platform for bringing together ideas, raising public awareness and for inspiring sustainable change.
